The Noble Dead Series

As I've been reading this series, I've been thinking about what actors should play each character, and I rarely do that. Honestly, I haven't been able to think of many perfect actors for each of the characters, but I do have a few picked out. For instance, Magiere would most definitely have to be played by Claudia Black. No one else could do it. I also picture Naomi Watts, a la Jet Girl as Wynn. Of course, she's a bit too old now...

Try as I might, I haven't been able to think of great actors for each of the other characters.

Also, this would likely have to be a movie series, or a tv miniseries, as opposed to a single movie. But hey, that would be cool. :D

Has anyone ever heard of this series? The first volume was available on PBS, and I had to order it, as it's a manga referencing The Phantom of the Opera. Anyone who knows anything about it... what do you think of it?

This website gives this as part of the description of the first book:
Miyuki brings Kindaichi with her to the Drama Club’s island getaway where they’ll be rehearsing “Phantom of the Opera”, but a series of murders traps the club on the island, as well as laying suspicion on everyone there. Can Kindaichi solve the mystery of the opera house murders before the Phantom strikes again?

It sounds corny, but the reviews on Amazon said that it was up there with Agatha Christie's stuff in terms of a good murder mystery. I suspect that's a major exaggeration, but it could be on Nancy Drew's approximate level, which would be fine with me.

But I've ordered it, so if you want to know how it is, I'll let you know.

I know everyone already knows about this...

But here's a link.

This is the first time I actually READ AN ARTICLE about it.

I've been eagerly anticipating the movie adaptation of the book The Kite Runner.
Unfortunately, I heard this bit of disturbing news from someone in a book community. This book has one particularly graphic scene involving children, and it seems there may be some moral issues that will prevent the movie from being released anytime soon.

Here's the article.

So I just read about a manga that I've never heard of before. It's called "A Midnight Opera", and I think it's LOOSELY inspired by The Phantom of the Opera.

Here's the description from PaperbackSwap:

For nearly a millennium, undead creatures have blended into a Europe driven by religious dogma... Ein DeLaLune is an underground Goth metal sensation on the Paris music scene, tragic and beautiful. He has the edge on other Goth music powerhouses...he's undead, a fact he's kept hidden for centuries. But his newfound fame might just bring out the very phantoms of his past from whom he has been hiding for centuries, including his powerful brother, Leroux. And if the two don't reconcile, the entire undead nation could rise up from the depths of modern society to lay waste to mankind.

The description in the magazine article I read says something else which was more what led me to believe there could be a connection, and I don't remember what that was. But I am noticing in this description that there is a character named Leroux, and it takes place in Paris. And "bring out the very phantoms of his past".

Anyone know this manga? I might be seeing things that aren't there, though. That is why I'm asking you guys. :)

I have a new favorite book.

I just FINALLY finished reading the book The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, and it was AMAZING. This book is basically about the Dracula legend, but it explores it from a historical point of view, so it really combines the mythology with the fact better than I've ever seen done before.

Look what I just got from paperbackswap.com!

Yaaaaaay! I finally have it. :D

(Yeah, I took a picture of my copy, but it turned out crappy, so I just googled an image instead.)

Apparently a bunch of HP7 books have been sold that are missing several pages. Lucky mine wasn't one of them. O.O

Here's an article about the missing pages.

Apparently this guy is burning books.

Is he an idiot? Burning books as a protest to people not reading? Isn't that a little backwards? O.O
